Lloyd’s has announced that Vicky Carter will be its next deputy Chair, effective 1st September 2021.

Carter began her insurance career in 1980 as a reinsurance broker and is currently chair of the international global capital solutions business for Guy Carpenter. Carter has been a member of the Council of Lloyd’s since 2019 and is chair of its Charities Trust and Community Programme. Lloyd’s chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown said: “This appointment recognises [Carter’s] extraordinary professional contribution to the Lloyd’s market and global (re)insurance industry over many decades.” Carter said: “I’m thrilled and proud to become Lloyd’s first female deputy chair. I am a huge advocate of the market’s global reach and its ability to respond to the changing risk needs of customers and look forward to continuing to contribute to the leadership of Lloyd’s in this new role.”

Lloyd’s has also announced that Mark Sedwill, former cabinet secretary, will also be joining the Council as deputy chair. Lord Sedwill was cabinet secretary from June 2018, served as national security adviser and was head of the civil service. Carnegie-Brown said: “As one of the most respected figures in modern British diplomacy, and a former head of the UK civil service, Mark brings to Lloyd’s a unique and independent perspective as we deliver against our strategic priorities.” Sedwill said: “Lloyd’s is a world-class British institution which is vital to the future of the City and UK financial services. I am honoured to have been invited to contribute to that future and look forward to joining the team.”
