Atrium appoints Peter Laidlaw as Active Underwriter

Posted 29/07/2022 – Quick takes

Atrium has announced that Peter Laidlaw will replace Toby Drysdale as Active Underwriter of syndicate 609 from 1st January 2023. Laidlaw has been with Atrium since 1993 and has experience across multiple non-marine classes. He is currently the lead underwriter of the accident and health account, as well as providing oversight for International General liability, International Professional Liability, US Professional Liability and US Property and Casualty Binders. Drysdale, who has held the role of Active Underwriter since 2016, will take on a new advisory role at Atrium as Director of Corporate Underwriting Review Services.

Alpha Comment

Toby has guided syndicate 609 through difficult market conditions in a period of heightened natural catastrophe activity to top quartile results in all years he has overseen as active underwriter. This appears to be similar to the change of active underwriter at MAP, with Drysdale handing over to his successor whilst supporting the incoming active underwriter. We, therefore, thank him and look forward to his continuing oversight in his new role. We welcome the appointment of Peter Laidlaw, who has long been assumed as Drysdale’s natural successor, and look forward to working more closely with him.
