Alpha comment

It is disappointing to see the midpoint of the 2021 forecast for syndicate 33 reduce a little this quarter. We do not yet have the breakdown of this forecast, which previously included an element of release from the prior years and a strong positive investment income, either of which could have been revised downwards. Based on the improvements in the forecasts for 6104, the movement is unlikely to be due to deterioration on major losses. We will report further when we have more information. The marginal improvement on the forecast for the 2022 year is in line with our expectations at this stage.

SPA 6104 is seeing continued improvement in all years. The 2020 year has seen its midpoint forecast improve from -0.6% at the 36 months position to +5.2% now and we expect it to continue to improve prior to its closure which is unlikely to be before 31st December 2024. It is also pleasing to see that both the 2021 and 2022 years are also now forecasting profits, despite a high level of major loss activity in these years.
